So this is Luna getting her ears pierced to spell CHA by Linky Shoeshine.
-Otic (definition 2, by my dictionary) means pertaining to ears.
Chairface Chippendale from The Tick got as far as CHA when he tried to write his name on the moon.
1000 years ago when the Crystal Empire disappeared the books in its library did not use roman letters.
Ponyville used roman letters for a sign welcoming Princess Celestia in "Swarm of The Century".
Horseshoes(a common earthpony cutie mark motif) are attached with nails, ergo body piercing?
Luna was banished around the time the Crystal Empire disappeared.
Luna may not be able to read roman letters, but could have a predilection towards the letters C, H, and A as ornamentation, because of someting that happened to the moon in a different cartoon 18 years ago.
